edna garrett, we celebrate YOU this mother’s day. you always knew the right thing to squawk; you reached out to pre-teens glued to the tv every week watching as you spit out advice to the girls of eastland school like a magic pez dispenser of wisdom. you conquered it all, mrs. g. body image issues? BLAM!  illiteracy? KAPOW!  pot smoking? POOF! race relations? BOOM! teen runaway prostitution ring? SKIFF! cousin jeri living with a disability? you didn’t even notice....you are good people. just like a mom should be.

anyway, dear reader, she doesn’t have to be your biological mother to let her know you think she’s the bees knees. isn’t there a woman in your life that treated you like her own? then for the love of frosting AT LEAST send her a card. and if you have any kind of relationship with your own mother, she can’t be overlooked, either.

but to REALLY let her know you care, bring her some cupcakes or a saint cupcake gift certificate! order some today or stop by either location on sunday after brunch. and bring mom with you. or bring your mom-like person.

happy mother’s day!

p.s. and saint cupcake would like to give a happy mother’s day shout out to the pregnant man in bend. happy manmother’s day to you, thomas!

teacher appreciation week may 4th-10th

POSTED ON Thursday, May 01, 2008 AT 14:58 by saint cupcake

when i was in 4th grade, i went to a store called “green streets” to buy mrs. sontag a little something to let her know she was the best 4th grade teacher in all the world. green streets was the perfect store; it had a wall of sticker spools, stationary, grape smelling pens, stuffed animals, and posters with kittens. even though mrs. sontag smoked cigarettes in class and always ate some kid’s chips out of their lunch box, she cared for her students. and since the lady loved her cup of sanka ALL day long, what better gift than a rainbow and unicorn mug? i wrapped it with rainbow heart wrapping paper and even cut out hearts that linked together to make a really long heart chain. if i had known the flavor explosion of sanka like she did, i’d have wanted a mug like that, too. of course all this was before jami and her grandma invented cupcakes, so there was no saint cupcake. my choices were limited in how to express my gratitude to vivian sontag. afterall, she’s the woman who inspired me to become a veterinarian. except that i never actually did become a veterinarian, but she sure did inspire me! just think where i’d be if i brought her some big tops?

don’t let the same thing happen to you. stop by saint cupcake the week of may 4th-10th and get your favorite educator a special treat. i mean, it’s no unicorn rainbow mug, but it’ll do to let him or her know you care and you may just become an animal doctor because of it.

you say it’s your earthday?

it’s my earthday, too! yeah! but this year we are going to keep it low key. at least we’ll try to because you know earth is going to be getting trashed this year for her big day. it just seems like every year she says she’s not going to do it again, but as sure as the sun rises in the east, earth gets her party on and ends up stumbling around the solar system like it’s rush week. she hits on saturn, starts a fight with venus, runs around screaming “look at my crust!” and can’t stop giggling at uranus. then jupiter steps in and has to hold earth’s hair back as she horks lava into the atmosphere. it’s not pretty, folks and we want to keep it mellow.

despite her drinking “issues”, we appreciate mother earth. this earthday, april 22, saint cupcake would like to honor her by encouraging our customers to bring in their own containers for cupcakes OR coffee. not that our customers need an incentive but we’ll be offering a free dot size cupcake to anyone who can make the world a better place by reusing a box, a bag, a soap dish, a satchel, a bird house, an old shoe, a cassette tape holder, contact lens case, bionic man lunch box, sippy cup, suit case, or even a clay pot. whatever, really. but if you buy cupcakes and bring in a container, we’ll give you a dot.

now let’s all have a happy earthday this year, ok?
